Fragments, International House
StudioFractal were commissioned by SEEDA to create a light installation which disguised the unremarkable building form of international house. Drawing inspiration from the architectural rhythm and the colours of the changing seasons, SF created an abstract light installation which changes in colour and activity over each day, month and season.
SF adapted a colour changing LED fitting from Lightlab onto a custom designed cable trunking system to provide an abstract palette of colour shards. A series of softly changing light displays animate the building from dusk through to midnight - with bursts of increased activity on the hour. Additional, specially designed fittings are mounted in the under-croft car park to provide an immersive coloured environment, also linked to the facade colour display. A specially written control program triggers the range of different lighting scenes.
