StudioFractal have created a dynamic lighting strategy for this iconic and much loved seaside attraction. Comprising layers of lighting emphasising the landscaping and interspersed with a series of colour changing elements, the new lighting scheme successfully reimagines the historic waterfront festoon lighting into a 21st-century destination.

An imposing line of custom-designed lighting masts along the Seafront promenade of Southend-on-Sea provide functional and aesthetic lighting to the public realm. These digital lighting features are engineered to withstand the harsh marine environment take inspiration from lantern arrays of fishing boat masts upon the shore. Each 20-meter structure houses 1560 LED low energy, colour changing nodes.

A range of light shows incorporating images, video and text celebrate annual events engaging with visitors and establishing the promenade as a unique seaside destination.
